Help Me Pick a Rug + Win It!

Hey gang! Want to win a rug? GOOD because this is your chance. Okay, so in addition to my art wall projects around the house, I'm working on window treatments and rugs - one for the entry and one for Aidan's room to replace the lovely flokati rug that I talked about here. I need to act quickly though because the baby is 4 months old now and I can tell he will be crawling pretty soon! Then it's zoom! zoom! zoom! all over his room. Recently posted on their Instagram that they would send ONE lucky person who comments on  a rug just for suggesting one for Aidan's room. Isn't that nice? So if you could do me a favor and help me pick a rug, then comment below AND on their , that would be super great!  You have to comment in both places though to qualify.

So this is the deal. I will order a rug for Aidan's room to replace the fabulous yet impractical - I want the same size and shape (nothing round), just one that will work in his room and will be easy on his knees as he begins to move that little bod around. If you want to help me out, can you look over the and see if you imagine any of those rugs for this space below? Remember, it will replace the flokati and be positioned in the exact same place.

The new rug will need to coordinate with the current scheme and blend nicely but definitely not steal the thunder away from the beautiful window and wallpaper ("Kite" by ). The colors in the room are mint, goldenrod, white, gray, black... and some blue. The walls are pale mint ("Cabbage White" by ). The gumball round will stay in front of the changing table so the new rug will need to coordinate with it. It is mint, gray, white, goldenrod and beige. You can see more photos of the nursery here.

Here are some stripe-y ones that I'm considering... They're not too "baby" and can grow with him for years to come. But the colors are right. I'm thinking that MAYBE I can ask them if they'll create one of these rugs in a mint stripe just for Aidan's room? What do you think? The charcoal is too graphic/harsh for this space and the duck egg blue will make the mint walls look more blue and I don't want that... Plus I never imagined a baby blue boy's room and so I'm trying to do all I can to steer clear from that. But stripes are always nice...

is nice too... And I do have triangle patterns in the room so it could work... The two colors would need to be pretty close in tone though, not too contrast-y, because I don't want it to be the focal point in the room... The good thing about the Chevron patterns is you can custom order. In this case, what two colorways would you go with for this space? I am imagining maybe sage and fog...

could be good too, but again, the colors would need to be very same-y so there isn't a high contrast...

What about ? Not in this colorway but..

Maybe a ? Again, not these colors... We are just looking at design and patterns for now...

Lots of people are telling me to just go with the big, round Dandelion Natural rug for this room. This would mean removing the felt ball rug from in front of the changing table and placing it in the corner in front of his closet (not shown). It is also great for little knees as I'm told it is soft and natural.

Or I could go with the (which I love, but I wanted this one for my office!). But he is a BOY and he will have LEGOS and TRUCKS and stuff, will this open cut out pattern really be practical for a little growing boy? Or will I constantly be picking legos out of it when I vacuum? Or will he constantly be complaining because he cannot get his massive lego towers to stand on it without falling over? For this reason, the Dandelion above may be more practical. Plus Marigold does look a little feminine, don't you think?

OKAY so what are your thoughts? AND REMEMBER: To win a rug from Armadillo&Co you need to:

1// Comment on  with your rug suggestion for Aidan's room. 2// Comment below on this post with your suggestion.

That's it! But you'll need to do both!

Contest ends when I choose a rug, which I'm thinking will be within the next two weeks so I'll most likely close this contest on June 30.

THANK YOU EVERYONE and especially to for this amazing opportunity for a lucky reader!

Win a Signed + Dedicated Sweet Paul Eat & Make Book

Want to win a copy of Eat & Make by Sweet Paul? We're giving away 5 signed and dedicated copies... But first, I'm a friend and fan of , we met once in New York City when I was teaching there and I wrote for his magazine last year. Bottom line - I really admire him; Paul is hands down the real deal and he has built his business from the ground up which I find so inspiring since I remember when he was just starting out online. He has always been consistently authentic, kind and supportive of the online community, and so unselfish with his time giving me advice and direction on things most people wouldn't share so freely. I really have a soft spot in my heart for Paul as a person, but there is so much more to him than his relaxed and generous nature - he's a terrific talent with loads of creative vision as we've all seen demonstrated in his issues of over the years -- but now there's even more... A BOOK. (swoon!)

His debut book, , drops today (April 1) and to celebrate, I've teamed up with Paul and his publisher, , to offer you a chance to WIN a signed and dedicated copy from Paul himself of . Here is a little video that he made just for cattledogs readers...

Eat & Make merges cooking (loads of delish recipes, I'm definitely trying his fish taco recipe this summer) with kitchen crafting (salad bowl pendant lights, anyone?) for a creative spin on your typical cookery book. I love the combination of crafting with cooking and especially enjoy how personal this book is with photos from his own life and friends dancing around each chapter, I find it all to be quite endearing. I've written 3 books and haven't had the courage to do that yet, to get so personal with photos of me throughout, so perhaps I'll really bare all and be more like Paul in my next book. He can really pull this off so well because he is quite charming!

Another point about the book that grabbed my attention instantly was the book cover - showing his photo, recipes and crafts, it really told a story to me so I instantly new what the book was all about before even reading the title.

I also LOVE the watercolor-y illustrations by throughout, I'm a big fan of watercolor so this was a big for me. The over book design by and Nellie Williams is hands down stunning. I am so particular about book layout, and this one feels like something out of South Africa or Australia to me - very fresh like I found most cookery books from those parts of the world. The photography by makes the book because let's face it, you can style and cook something wonderful but your photographer can ruin it with a bad angle or poor lighting - Alexandra doesn't disappoint - the photos shine through and through. I also must mention that in addition to Paul Lowe (Sweet Paul himself) his collegue Paul Vitale worked on lots of the writing in the book, so it's a real collaborative effort with a talented team of people.

If you want to win a signed and dedicated copy of Eat  & Make, comment below with the reason why you LOVE SWEET PAUL! That's it! (Originally I asked people to tweet but lots of you wrote in stating you don't use/want to use Twitter so I want to take everyone into consideration and open this contest up to ALL.) you'll need to tweet and complete the following sentence and tell us why you love Sweet Paul's style. Cut and paste the following, filling in your thoughts in the blank and make sure to end the tweet with @sweetpaul and @cattledogs so we see them!

#ilovesweetpaul because _______ @sweetpaul @cattledogs"

Then comment below letting us know who you are and what you tweeted. The winners will be announced on April 8th!

Good luck everyone! And if you simply cannot wait to own a copy of Paul's gorgeous book, .

Update: The WINNERS are: #3 Lou, #11 Cintia, #15 Ann, Boheme Circus #26 and Sarah Lou #63. If you are listed here, please [email protected] as soon as possible and let her know what you would like for Paul to write inside of your book, in addition to his signature of course, along with your mailing address. Thank you!
